CONNECT is an open source software gateway that connects an organizations' health IT systems into health information exchanges using Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) conventions, agreements and core services to better serve patients throughout the country. Built through collaboration of more than 20 federal agencies, the CONNECT gateway can help organizations reap the benefits of health information exchange with other healthcare institutions nationwide.

OpenEMPI is an open source Master Patient Index which is a system that allows health care organizations that need to exchange data to uniquely identify to which patient the data belongs to despite variations in the attributes that describe the patient. The software has been developed in a generic way so that it can be applied to other tasks that require master data management.
