If people is moving a project from another repository they need to import issues already tracked in another system. Jira has got a number of ways to import data in various formats, but AFAIK all they require the administrator account. Do you figure out any alternative way?
For instance, is the RPC plugin of Jira enabled in Kenai?

Hi Fabrizio,

Yes, we are looking into more ways to allow the possibility of migrating Jira data from old installs to the Kenai install. So far there has only been a small amount of demand for it, but that's growing.

RPC is enabled for the Jira instances. This is how we allow Mylyn integration from Eclipse. If there is something you can do with that, give it a try and make sure that you let us know what you do and how it works out. I'm sure there are folks out there that will want to know what you figure out with RPC.

I'll add you vote to the existing ticket for Jira migration.

Any news on JIRA migration? We have an existing instance for which we would like to migrate our project issues to the one in Kenai.

I haven't tried using JIRA RPC so far. Or - well - I've tried it for other things (my Hudson plugin), but it doesn't seem to work (Hudson says it can't find JIRA). But I haven't seriously worked on it, so it could be a trivial error on my side.

The Jira RPC stuff has been turned on and working for quite some time actually. This is how we started supporting the Mylyn interaction from Eclipse.

We also know that the NB folks have been doing integration with Kenai Jira instances recently as part of the new NB / Kenai work.

As for direct migrations, using the Jira UI, that has not gone any further yet. It's a little more complicated then just turning on the migration ability.
