Hi everybody, I must admit, I did the same: when I heard that kenai.com will be closed I immidiately started looking for alternatives. But I would like to point out one important thing: I don't want to leave! I think kenai is far better than most - if not all - other forges out there. It might not have the community-character some other sites have, but what it does, it does just great. I never had problems with SCM and all the tools are integrated very well. So even if I am aware that the decission is fixed and I might not be able to change it, I have to say it, I have to let it out: Oracle, please let kenai.com live for the public. If you don't I will choose Postgres as my favourite database. ![]() However, all the best to the kenai.com team. As it has been said in another thread, you have created a great tool and I am sad if we will not see the improvements which where certainly about to come. All the best. Chris |
Wait a minute - why are we just leaving?

Yes, I agree!!! And I'll try to tell it in all three languages I know: English - Please don't close Kenai! Italiano (Italian) - Per favore non chiudete Kenai! 日本語 (Japanese) - Kenaiを閉めないでください。 I just opened my project the day before the announce... damn! But anyway I don't want to stop!Kenai is simple, full-featured and very nice and using it through NetBeans IDE, with Java, is simply great! |

Agreed. We should try to make as LOUD a noise as we can to Oracle that Kenai is worth preserving. We could even try a "letters to Larry" campaign. If Oracle really doesn't want to pay for th hosting anymore , at a minimum they could release Kenai to the public as open source so someone else couls pick it up. |

Agreed. I found Oracle's decision very upsetting, and my exploration of alternatives for my project can be labeled nothing short of depressing. I really hope they give us some further consideration. In any case, I would at least like a more thorough and sincere explanation as to why this community is currently worth discarding. Hopefully when they post their notice here at Kenai they'll do more than just give us a date. Some sort of notice about possibly being reopened in the future would certainly make me a little less peeved, even if it's under some different name or whatnot. In the mean time, I think I'll also send an email to their "Acquisition Inquiries" address. It's been a pleasure taking part in this place; it's a shame it was so short lived. Good luck everyone, Eric |

I agree. I've just signed up at kenai.com and it became at once my favorite project hosting solution. Microsoft has its own project hosting service, so does google, to behonest i can't see a valid reason for oracle to close kenai. Releasing kenai source under GPL or similar would be a good signal of commitment to open technologies. Sure it requires quite a bit of resources to run a website like kenai, but at least that would be all the comunity would need, nothing more. |

| We need kenai.com, stupid Oracle will kill kenai.com, smart Oracle will continue it. |

Just discovered the nice kenai.com from netbeans 6.8, started a project then discovered that romours abound that it's to be closed. It is much better than googlecode and although I have not tried the netbeans integration yet, it looks as though it will be good. One wonders how to get an XML dump of a project to move onto another forge? Bum. |

I love Kenai, too. I used sourceforge for a short time. But kenai is far better. Especially the possibilities of choosing what you want. Oracle should be ashamed for that decision. If Oracle moves more in that direction, the community will surely punish that. |
