I'm not sure I like the way "Forums, People, Projects, My Page, Home" display. Kind of makes me want to tilt my laptop sideways.... What do others think? |
How do you feel about the vertical text?

I'm not a big fan of the vertical text - I would prefer horizontal tabs along the top. 2) The 'Home' option could be eliminated, since clicking on the "Project Kenai" logo does the same thing. Or you can click on 'kenai.com' in the breadcrumb bar. 3) There are text versions of the vertical text buttons at the bottom of the page (I'm assuming for accessability?) - they should at be in the same left-to-right order as the vertical text buttons. |

| The usability study feedback has been consistent on this. The vertical text must go and it will. This is residue from when we were thinking about using sliders at the top of the page, but that was way too much bling and it would cause performance issues. |

I like that it saves space, but agree it is hard to read. The standard optimization for spreadsheets and decision tables has always been slanted text. Perhaps that solution is possible here ? |

My living room is full of books on shelves, and I spend way too much time in book stores, so I've grown accustomed to hunting for titles by reading text aligned vertically. What's curious is that in the US, text on spines generally reads from top to bottom; we've chosen the convention more common in Europe, which is from bottom to top. |

Maybe you could use some pulldown menus on the top which allows easier navigation across the site. e.g. MyProject MyFavourites MyProfile etc. We have implemented such an feature on our internal SunSpace site (for Sun folks https sunspace.sfbay.sun.com) and people like it a lot...

Thumbs down on the vertical text. And I don't see that it saves any space; it's basically a square as it is. Plus it's so big. Once I've gotten to a project page the links to all the other stuff should probably not be the first thing I see on the page. The upper-left corner of the page should be where the most important information always lives, and the global links are definitely not the most important after I've gotten into my project. I've also gotten this feedback from a couple other folks, who additionally suggested all the small fonts on the site could use a bump in size. The breadcrumb, for example, is tiny, as are the links I'm really interested in for the project. The global links, including the buttons around them, take up ten times as much space as any one of the project-specific links. |
