About Downloads
When a project is first created, it gets a Downloads area for downloading project related files. Initially the list is empty. By default, anyone can download files from the list, but only a project administrator can add files to the list or change or delete the files.
Opening the Downloads Page
To see the download list for a project, go to the project's home page and click Downloads in the list of features on the right.
When the Downloads page opens, you see a list of files you can download for the project.
On this page, you can download files, or, if you have permission from the project administrator, you can upload files for others to download. By default, only a project administrator can upload files.
Downloading Files
To download a project's files, first open the download page as described above.
On that page, you can try clicking a file to download it. If the browser opens a dialog asking if you want to save the file, choose the Save option and then choose where to save the file.
If the file opens in a browser window (for example, it's an HTML file with installation instructions), you can download it by using your browser's standard download features. For example, in Microsoft Windows and Linux, if you go back to the Downloads page and right-click the Downloads link in Firefox, you can choose Save Link As and then choose the location where the file will be saved. If you're using Internet Explorer, when you right-click the link, the option is Save Target As.
The following figure shows the Save Link As menu option in Firefox:
Adding a File to the Downloads List
If you have a role on the project that permits you to upload files to the Downloads list (by default, Project Administrator), you'll see Add File for Download on the left above the list of files, as shown in the following figure:
Note: Uploading files for download is not the way to get graphics files on the site for your wiki pages. To do that, you need to have a wiki page open and click Upload an Image in the left blue navigation area as described in Uploading a Graphics File for a Wiki.
To add a file to the list:
- Click Add File for Download to open the upload dialog. The following figure shows that dialog with the fields filled in for a file for the Bluebird project.

- For the Select File field, you can click Browse to navigate to the file you want to upload. This field is required.
- In the Title field, enter up to 20 characters. This field is required. This name is displayed as a link in the Downloads list and must be unique for the list.
- In the Description field, enter up to 40 characters describing the file. This field is required.
- Optionally, in the Tags field, enter search terms that users can use to find the download.
- Click Upload to transfer the file to the server.
Editing a File in the Downloads List
First, display the Downloads list as described above. If you have a role on the project that permits you to edit files in the Downloads list (by default, Project Administrator), you'll see Edit and Delete actions to the right of each file in the list, as shown in the following figure:
To edit a file:
- Click Edit. The following dialog opens:

- Edit any of the fields and then click Save.
Deleting a File from the Downloads List
First, display the Downloads list as described above. If you have a role on the project that permits you to delete files in the Downloads list (by default, Project Administrator), you'll see Edit and Delete actions to the right of each file in the list, as shown in the figure under Editing a File in the Downloads List.
To delete a file, click Delete, then click OK in the confirmation dialog. The entry will be removed from the Downloads list.
Managing the Downloads List
If you are a project administrator, you can rename the Downloads list, remove it, and change role permissions for actions like downloading files and uploading, editing, and deleting files. For more information on managing the Downloads list, see Managing a Project: Downloads.
