Hi fellow JSR-275 experts... I have been testing out the latest JSR-275 code on my favourite subject area of automotive units. I have managed to describe just about every unit I need in a UCUM string - with the exception of Decibel (dB) (e.g. NonSI.DECIBEL I also notice that UnitFormat.getStandard().format(NonSI.DECIBEL) Any ideas/suggestions? - Chris |

Interesting. After JSR-275 is used in all kinds of "Green" technologies and industries already (Climate Change studies, companies providing Green Datacenter technology) this would be great. We should think of a (maybe even commercial ) extension some day for the Automotive Industry. including CO2 footprint, etc.First of course, we need to get things like UCUM out of the Spec!!! It was a major reason why the ballot was turned down for the moment, the others are failed or inactive JSRs aiming at a similar scope, so that's not directly within the EGs control. The simple fact, that UCUM was so tightly integrated helped some special (mostly healthcare) fields, while others or users who just need to express a unit as it is "m", "cm", "dB" or whatever must feel a bit overwhelmed or restricted at the moment. I know, this is a far greater effort to maintain all SI (and at least the NonSI) units for as many languages as this project (most likely a JSR) aims at, but that's the only way it'll get accepted now. And while there isn't any serious participation from the huge new Asian industries in SE/EE those countries and regions are going to RULE, also in IT and see China likely in the automotive industry, too (there's more in ME, and at least Samsung recently joined our EG of course with no relevant input whatsoever, this should change for future JSRs to keep them active and productive) Werner |
