Migrating OOo's Mailing Lists to Kenai
Traffic Estimate
The posting contains a spreadsheet with list statistics. It shows the number of subscribers and average number of msgs per day. The bottom line is a max of 125,000 msgs of a list with many messages / many subscribers, a peak of ~100,000 subscribers to one list and an average total of ~250,0000 list messages per day.
Messages forwarded to user@domain and messages rejected by the SPAM filter are not included.
List Types & Send Schemes
Caution: This Section is still in Progress, starting with a copy of NB MailingList page.
CEE/collabnet has mailing list types and kenai has a similar feature called mailing list send schemes.
Supported mailing lists types by OpenOffice.org
- private: Private mailing list access is restricted to project members only
- discuss: allows subscribers to post, and moderates posts (requires approval) from non-subscribers.
- moderated: moderates all posts.
- unmoderated: allows anyone (account/login on OpenOffice.org isn't required) to post messages without moderation.
- sublist: receives messages from other lists; e.g. allbugs, allcvs)
Supported send schemes by kenai.com
- restricted to local domain and subscribers: mailing list access is restricted to all signed up users and added any subscribers
- private: allows subscribers to post, and moderates posts (requires approval) from non-subscribers.
- moderated: moderates all posts.
- public list, bcc rejected (==unmoderated)
Kenai.com list send schemes are described in the help.
Supported send schemes by netbeans.org
- private
- moderated, http://kenai.com/jira/browse/KENAI-1121
- unmoderated, http://kenai.com/jira/browse/KENAI-1042 (send scheme public list, bcc rejected)
netbeans.org uses different send schemes so the send schemes of a kenai instance seem to be configurable to some extend. The netbeans.org send schemes are much closer to the CEE mailing list types than the kenai.com send schemes.
Supported send schemes on "testopenoffice.org' and later "openoffice.org"
privateoreditorkey - Private, moderated for non subscribers editorkey - Moderated intranetorprivateandeditorkey - Moderated, restricted to subscribers intranetorprivate - restricted to local domain and subscribers public_nobcc - public list, Bcc rejected (anti-spam)
migration of CEE types to kenai send schemes
We will have to create a mapping of former list types to the new kenai send schemes that are to be used in the openoffice.org instance, eg.:
discuss -> privateoreditorkey - Private, moderated for non subscribers
moderated -> moderated, restricted to subscribers
The distribution of particular types in OpenOffice.org and mapping
| Type | Nr. of mailing lists | Send scheme for kenai used in migration |
|---|---|---|
| allowed-posters | 41 | intranetorprivateandeditorkey |
| discuss | 489 | privateoreditorkey |
| moderated | 174 | editorkey |
| sublist | 6 | privateoreditorkey |
| unmoderated | 353 | public_nobcc |
| Total | 1063 |
Additionally all lists for commit messages, eg cvs@project.openoffice.org, allsvn@openoffice.org, etc. will be set to intranetorprivate - restricted to local domain and subscribers.

Private Flag
- on CEE
- If this box is checked, your mailing list is private. Private mailing list access is restricted to project members with a project role that includes the "Private Mailing List- View" permission. If users who do not have a project role with the "Private Mailing List- View" are subscribed to the list, they receive email messages sent to the list but cannot access the mailing list through the CollabNet Web interface. On OOo there are 109 mailing lists with this flag.
- on Kenai
- will make archives not readable by public (adapt the "view List" role permission) and use subscriber_type auth_owner. non private lists will use subscriber_type auth.
Questions
- Is it possible to subscribe one list (allbugs@) to another (issues@project)
