Open Source University Meetup Space Wiki
Welcome to the OSUM project space on kenai! This project, http://kenai.com/projects/osum/, is a companion project space for the community of OSUM clubs at http://osum.sun.com/.
Why Would An OSUM Club Use This Project Space?
The ning infrastructure used for osum.sun.com has everything you need for the social side of a club: mailing lists, forums, blogs, web pages. But it has no way of hosting source code, if some of your students want to work together on a coding project. Nor does it have a way to share documents, e.g. if a student creates a great term paper template for a particular class using OpenOffice and wants to make it available to other students. This project, or your own project on kenai, can hold code and document contributions that you want to share with other students.
How Can I Use This Project Space?
Two ways:
- This project is open to the public. Without joining this project or signing up for a username on kenai.com, anyone can browse this project, check out files from the subversion repository, download files from the downloads page, participate in the general discussion forum, etc.
- If you have something you want to share, like code to check in or a file for the downloads page, then you must join the project. Start by clicking on "Watch this project" in the lower left navigation bar, then send an email to one of the project administrators asking for one of the developer roles (software or content) as appropriate.
Features for OSUM Clubs
- General Discussion forum
- This is general discussion about this project space only, not general discussion about OSUM or your specific club. As described below, use this forum to ask questions about using this project space, including requests for a Software Developer role so that you can contribute source code to the Subversion repository or other files to the Downloads page.
- Subversion Source Code Repository
- This project has a Subversion Source Code Repository that you can use. For example, we could create a module within the repository that is for your OSUM club, and then all of your files could go in that part of the repository. To get started, post your request in the General Discussion forum. After an administrator grants you a Software Developer role, you will be able to check files in to the repository. Anyone can check files out.
- Downloads
- This project has a Downloads space where you can post downloads that will be available to the public. To get started, post your request in the General Discussion forum. After an administrator grants you a Software Developer role, you will be able to add files to download.
When you post a request to the General Forum, be sure to tell us the name and link of your OSUM club and we will put it on the Links page for this project. (Until there is a link on the page, the Links page does not show up in the left nav bar.)
Other OSUM Kenai Projects
If you have another project on kenai and you are part of an OSUM club, please tag your project with the tag osum. Thanks!
