All About PIP Project

Mission and Goals of PIP Project

To develop the most advanced decision support system, in which:

  • Intelligent Workflows and Processes can be created
  • The knowledge that drives them is created by Users with simple computer skills, modified and maintained by them, and is in Modular form with high potential for Reuse
  • The 'smarts' that control the processes can come from any source - Artificial or Natural Intelligence
  • Interoperability is a core concern. This will ensure that it works with any third party system (e.g.. EHR or Clinical Information System)
  • Extensibility and Adaptability for any kind of process is possible

Although Proteus should be adaptable for use in any domain (e.g., finance, education, legal) , the immediate goal is to create a Process Driven Clinical Decision Support System which can be used with any Clinical Information System or EMR

Values of the Members of the PIP Project

  • Collaboration over individualism but with due recognition of Merit, Effort and Contribution of Individuals
  • Practicality over theory – the aim is not to write papers but to create a system that works and makes a difference
  • Ideas and innovation over bureaucratic procedures and 'the dreary desert sand of dead habit'
  • Respect for fellow developers and our users
  • But most of all, Fun

  • National Library of Medicine
  • City of Hope National Medical Center
  • Henry Ford Health System (CSRI)
Almost all development for the last version took place at Henry Ford. The development was done as part of Semantic Data Capture Initiative project in which we are making Proteus and GreEd useful for the clinical workforce.
  • TATRC (DoD)

Logo

You may wonder what the logo that you see on each of the pages of this wiki depicts.

Wonder no more, for here is the answer.

The K in the logo standards for Knowledge or KCs (Knowledge Components), which lie at the heart of the Proteus concept. The square tablet like appearance is to represent the modularity of knowledge that is sacrosanct in Proteus. Modularity is what makes knowledge reusable and easily editable. The two arrows that emanate from K represent the workflow aspect of Proteus as well as the dynamic nature of the knowledge.

And what about the colors? Well, have you not been reading?! Did we not say Fun is value that we cherish as members of this project? The colors convey our sense of fun.

Now you know! Aren't you glad you asked!?
