Steps to Install and Run Protean

We suggest that you download the executable and install. If for some reasons, you face any problem during installations, follow the following steps to install and run:

  1. If you do not have Java on your machine, install Java 1.5 or newer by downloading from here
  2. Install PIP executables:
    1. Download dist.zip, which contains the Jar and the libraries needed to execute Protean.
    2. Unzip all files in any location, retaining the folder structure.
  3. Install the databases:
    1. If you do not have access to MySQL server download and install MySQL on your machine
    2. Download data, which contains MySQL databases dump files, unzip the 4 sql files to any temporary location.
    3. Use your favorite MySQL client tool or download the free Navicat Community Edition for the following steps.
    4. Create 4 databases with the following names: proteus, dataelements, jessrules and rules
    5. Run the SQL queries which you unzipped to a temporary location for each of the databases created in the previous step, one query for each database of the same name.
    6. Make sure you have provided anonymous access with all privileges for all the four databases
  4. Execute Protean:
Run the pip.jar file by double clicking or from the command line. Execute GreEd from within Protean.
