[[platypus announce]] Release Candidate 1 of New Version of Platypus Now Available

The Platypus team has just posted the first major update to the Platypus typesetting software to the project’s website (http://platypus.pz.org).

This version, 0.2.0 RC1, is a complete rewrite, using a new plug-in architecture that will facilitate adding commands and output formats quickly. It has a different installation procedure, which is explained in the documentation. In addition, it contains bug fixes and a handful of new features added.

New features include:

- Support for all TrueType fonts and font collections, and OpenType fonts
- Paragraph indentation from left and right sides
- Customizable column widths
- The ability to turn footers on and off
- More debugging support (when your documents don’t look how you expect)
- An output plugin that generates color-coded listing of Platypus files.

 
Please test the RC 1 version of the current release. Post questions or comments to the user mailing list (see http://platypus.pz.org/mailinglists.html). We want to finalize this version by 1 December. Then, on to the new features, which we are currently working on:

- URLs (with anchor text)
- color fonts
- color text
- bulleted lists
- initial support for code listings
- numerous foreign letters, mathematical symbols, and special characters
